It was hard for me to believe that I had travelled around the world but had never been to Washington state or Canada. So, I was really excited about going to these places, so close and yet so far away.
I didn't really see much of Seattle but I did manage to see two things that I had heard about for years. First, of course, was the Iconic Seattle Space Needle. You learn things about yourself, that you never expected, when you travel. For me, it was I really don't like REALLY TALL BUILDINGS. Yep, I paid my money and I went to the top. I walked around the inside loop of the top round thing, but there was no way I was going to stand right beside the glass wall and and look down. Just was not going to happen! I people watched and I looked straight forward out across the river, and I didn't like the elevator going up or down either. People were standing on benches and pressing their hands on the glass so it would look like they were climbing like Spiderman, or something!! Guess I won't be going up in the Eiffel Tower when we get there either. I did see quite a few men with this unusual hat on their heads. I'm sure it is a religious thing, but I thought they were pretty.

After NOT buying a souvenir to commemorate my Space Needle visit, we walked next door to the Chihuly Garden and Glass Exhibit. This was truly a Not-to-Be-Missed exhibit. If you have ever been to Las Vegas and gone into the Bellagio Hotel/Casino you will have seen the Dale Chihuly Flowers hanging from the lobby ceiling. We spent over 2 hours here and could have spent more. The indoor exhibit is divided into several different rooms each focusing on a different style (bowls, centerpieces, home decor, and chandeliers, etc.) and each more awe-inspiring than the one before. Then there was a video room with 6-7 videos of how he developed his art, how they do it and how his team works to create new ways to work glass into amazing works of art. In 1999, he had a major exhibition in the historic Citadel in Jerusalem. In 4 months they had over one million visitors to celebrate the millennium. It was called "Chihuly in the Light of Jerusalem". The video was fascinating and it must have been awesome to visit and actually see the glass lit up at night in the old ruins.

After spending time inside and walking thru the Glasshouse with more beautiful creations, we went outside to the Gardens. Outside there were glass pieces interspersed with live plants and flowers. Sometimes you really could not tell what was glass and what was real. If you are ever in the neighborhood, you should definitely visit. It is a permanent exhibit with ever changing works.
